Cutting large works for me , I feel, I can trim down, then trying to add on.

Your ruler should have a 90 degree line on it. place that on the seam. Position it till the 3 1/2 is in the block. I try and trim a small amount of the first two sides, then turn the block and then realign the 90 line and new trim sides on the 3 1/2…

Are you cutting the squares, then cutting them into triangles before you sew them? I cut my squares at 4"(when they ask for 37/8). Then draw a line diagonally. Stitch quarter of inch on each side of the line. Cut on the line. Press. Then trim…
